Health and Wellness Pathways I-BEST Integrated Learning: Caregiving Pathways (Home Care Aide) Program

Program Description

This program will prepare students to take the WA State Home Care Aide Exam*. In addition to learning Home Care Aide skills, students will receive additional academic support, have a dedicated healthcare advisor and explore further opportunities in healthcare.

*Please note: To apply for the WA State Home Care Aide Exam you are required by law to have a Social Security Number. You will also need to be able to pass a Federal or Washington State Background Check.

Program Information

This class is designed at a pace in which students receive more support than they would in a traditional college classroom. The program is designed with the needs of ESL students in mind, although the class is open to everyone. This program will allow students to earn their certificate to be able to work, while pursuing additional education in healthcare.

Fall, Winter and Spring Quarters
1:00 PM - 4:00 PM

Degree Options

These credits can also apply to an AAS degree in Medical Assisting, Community Health and Wellness, or Human Services at Highline.

Important Notes

  • This information does not substitute for meeting with a faculty adviser.
  • Students must achieve a minimum grade of 2.0 in each class.
  • Not all classes are offered every quarter.

Entry Requirements

  • Minimum ABE/ESL level 4 required or COMPASS Scores: Reading 61/Writing 40
  • High ESL Level 3 with Teacher Recommendation

Steps to Enroll

  • Attend a Workforce Education Services Orientation to see if you are eligible for funding*:
    http://workforce.highline.edu/index.php
    • Fridays, 1PM - 3 PM, Building 26, Room 213
  • Meet with Kate Noon-Ulvila
    • Kate will confirm your CASAS or COMPASS scores
    • Get Kate's signature for Enrollment Form for class
  • Register for class
    • Submit Application for Admission Form to Admission in Building 6, top floor
    • Pay Cashier in Building 6, lower floor the $17 application fee
    • Submit Registration Add/Drop Form to Registration in Building 6, lower level

* If you are not eligible for funding you can enroll in the class through Continuing Education: https://ce.highline.edu/
